It seems just like yesterday that the Spurs were a complete dynasty. Winning the championship in the 90's and in '05 and '07. But much has changed in the NBA since then. Even though the San Antonio Spurs have many veterans, they always seem to keep up with the younger teams in the NBA. The past season they finished with a 54-28 record, a great record even with the absence of Manu Ginobli in most of the season, but had little success in the playoffs, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round. But don't think that the Spurs are pleased with that. As many have seen, they went and got a little help in the form of a top scorer named Richard Jefferson.
With most of his career in New Jersey, Jefferson was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks and had a less than pleasant 2008 season. Richard Jefferson must be more than pleased now being in one of the most succesful and fundamental-based teams in the NBA. The Spurs must be pleased to have to have a scorer and a great defensive all-around player like Richard. Maybe a turnover threat to the team, but nevertheless, a great three point shooter with 39% 3PG in the '08 season.
The Spurs now have more than necessary weapons on the perimeter play. Also with arguably the best Power Forward in the history of the NBA in Tim Duncan, who is always a danger to have a great game every night. Also with a former "Sixth Man" coming off the bench and recovered from injury, Manu Ginobli looks to have a major impact this year as he always had. And not to be forgotten, one of the "big three" for the Spurs and a former Finals MVP, Tony Parker. A great PG and always a threat for teams. Also with the signing of Antonio McDyess, there is a different presence in the paint with one more big man that can step back to hit the mid-range jumper.
But they have a big void to fill in the defensive part of the game. With the loss of Bruce Bowen, arguably the best defender in the league, they lost a big chunk of their defensive edge. We'll see if they can get past that and remain a godd defensive team.
The Spurs look for more success this season as a more complete team. If they can stay healthy, they are a great choice to win the NBA championship.
Lo de los Spurs esta bien atinado... El problema que tuvieron los Spurs el año pasado es que al ser un equipo de muchos jugadores veteranos, no salían de las lecciones. Manu a demostrado que es un jugador que sale del banco con mucha efectividad y es un jugador que juega bien con la bola en la mano y crea buena ofensiva uno contra uno y crea ofensiva para todos, como lo es un jugador europeo, pero a su vez en estas pasadas temporadas a demostrado que es un jugador que es "dulce" para las lecciones. Manu también esta entrado un poco de edad y ya vemos que la edad le esta produciendo mas lecciones cada vez y tal parece que su tobillo esta sumamente lastimado y parece ser de esas lecciones que son para toda la vida.
ReplyDeleteJeferson no tan solo ayuda en la ofensiva y en la "defensiva" (aun que para mi no es tan bueno en defensa) sino que alivia la carga a Manu ya que a pesar de ser del banco, jugaba muchos minutos por que es un SG efectivo y la persona que tenían para salir del banco y ayudar en la ofensiva en estos pasados años era Micheal Finely, pero Micheal esta sumamente viejo y sus años de "prime" le pasaron hace tiempo. Jeferson llena las expectativas que la gerencia tenia con Micheal. Jeferson al ser un buen anotador de la línea de tres, cae muy bien en la ofensiva "inside-outside" de los Spurs y en adición, es un jugador que puede jugar de frente al canasto y crear su propio juego. Es versátil y atlético, cosa que los Spurs no tenía el año pasado en un SG.
Parker es un buen penetrador, pero debe mejorar su tiro de afuera para ser mas efectivo y a pesar de haber tenido un buen año ofensivo y por esa misma razón tubo los problemas lecciones durante el año y si los Spurs quieren desarrollar una buena química con estos jugadores nuevo, el es esencial para ese surgimiento.
Finalmente, Antonio Mcdyees trae como bien dices un tiro de 10 a 15 pies del canasto sumamente efectivo y el cual ayudo varias veces a los Pistons durante su estadía en Detroit. Pero no tan solo es su tiro lo importante en San Antonio, sino que el es un muy buen rebotero. De los 62 juegos que jugo el año pasado, solo fue regular en 30 y con un promedio de 30 minutos por juego, su promedio de rebotes fue 9.6 rebotes por partido. Los Spurs tenia una deficiencia en los rebotes y Tim Duncan no tan solo era principal en la ofensiva, sino que también estaba a cargo de los rebotes. Antonio Mcdyees es una gran ayuda en los rebotes y en los canastos a cierta distancia. Lo lamentable es que el no es un jugador eficiente jugando a espaldas del canasto, cosa que le seria muy valioso a los Spurs dentro de la pintura. Y hay que hacer una aclaración, Mcdyees jugo en el este, hogar de los "guards" y no un lugar donde predomine los jugadores fuertes y grandes de la NBA, no se cuan agradable sea la bienvenida de Mcdyees al oeste y mucho mas con su edad, en eso, los Spurs se jugaron la suerte. Por mi parte yo hubiera preferido a que trataran de firmar a Villanueva ex-integrante de los Bucks y ahora el nuevo integrante de los Pistons. El es un jugador fuerte y ayuda mucho en la ofensiva, y probablemente seria efectivo en los rebotes, pero sobre todo es joven y con Tim Duncan como mentor hubiera sido tremendo, pero a lo hecho pecho.
